Known as a "totem lamp," it features a distinctive architectural form composed of hand-built or molded ceramic elements in earthy terracotta and natural tones. The lamp's rugged, textured appearance is characteristic of the brutalist movement in studio pottery.
Composition: It is made of stoneware with relief patterns, often incorporating abstract circular motifs or "totem" segments. This specific piece features a tiered structure with a blue-glazed central channel and horizontal banding. Bernard Rooke studied at Goldsmiths College and established his workshop in the early 1960s, initially crafting pieces by hand using coils and blocks before expanding into these popular sculptural lighting designs.
