One of a set of three. This is a hand-colored aquatint print titled Gone away by Henry Alken, originally published in 1821 as part of a series of six plates called The High Mettled Racer.
The print depicts a fox hunting scene, a subject for which Alken is well-known.
The original series illustrates the life story of a racehorse, from a foal to its eventual death.
The print is an example of sporting art, a popular genre in 19th-century Britain.
The original prints were created using aquatint, a printmaking technique that produces watercolor-like tones.
